Mary Ann Everett Wood (1818-1895), historian, was born at Sheffield on 19 July 1818. She was educated at home, and in 1841 moved with her parents to London, where she began to carry out historial research at the British Museum. In 1846 she married George Pycock Green, and after two years settled at Gower Street, London, where she lived for the rest of her life.
